Root Down is the brainchild of Justin Cucci, and the culmination of years of experience in the restaurant world. With a vision of what a restaurant could be and what it should incorporate, Justin sought to create a funky neighborhood joint with a sophisticated vibe, a place that would connect people and start conversation.
The name pays homage to the late Jimmy Smith, a legendary 1960's jazz musician who recorded Root Down (And Get It). Lyrically, the term means to return to the root of the song and get back to the basics, which is exactly what the restaurant hopes to do - the fundamentals with a twist.
Much like jazz, Root Down is the combined effort of individual strengths coming together to create a rhythmic, interplaying, and improvisational masterpiece. Each player riffs off his or her own talents and history to bring a fresh, new perspective to the ongoing story.
We're all about the convention of life in all its eclectic glory, and finding new ways to bring that to the table, whether through the food, the design, the atmosphere or the people.
